Jose is an Accounting Professor at the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, and the Executive Director of the Center for Financial Reporting & Management (CFRM), which is the leading center at Haas integrating accounting research, regulatory issues, and the accounting profession. Jose is also the Founder & Program Director of the Berkeley Charter of Professional Accountancy (BCPA), a new academic program housed at Haas and operated by CFRM that is designed to facilitate accounting education at Berkeley. Finally, Jose is a Faculty Member of the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET) at the Berkeley College of Engineering; and Accounting Professor in SCET’s Engineering Leadership Professional Program (ELPP).
Jose is the recipient of the 2015 Notable Contribution to the Accounting Literature Award, which is granted annually by the American Accounting Association (AAA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). The award was granted for his research into cost structure and demand uncertainty. Jose has published widely in leading accounting, economics, and management journals, including The Accounting Review, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Review of Economic Dynamics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and Economics Letters. Jose earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago and B.S. degrees in Economics and Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
